Junior Bullets's 2nd-half collapse gives Sports School big win

The Singapore Sports School punished the C Boys from Bowen Secondary School 5-0 in a NZ Inter-Schools Competition Group C match this afternoon at Bowen's home ground. The rampant display by Sports School forced the Bullets into a 2nd half meltdown which saw 4 goals scored in quick succession despite a controlled Bullets' performance in the first half.

The Bullets conceded in the 11th minute of the game when a half-cleared ball off a Sports School corner rolled into space on the right and Bullets left winger Muhd Shazly allowed his opposite number on the flank to reach the ball first and push it into an empty net.

But credit to the Bullets, they managed to hold their opponents at bay after the goal. At half-time, there was hope for a Bowen comeback based on the determined performance so far.

It was not to be 5 minutes into the 2nd half. A swirling free-kick by Sports School from outside the box on the left was pushed away weakly into his goalmouth by Bullets keeper, Koei.

The exhaustion of the Bullets from chasing their opponents began to tell as they gradually lost their focus, allowing too much space for Sports School to exploit. In the 39th minute, no Bullets were close when a Sports School midfielder collected the ball just outside the penalty box, took his time and unleashed an accurate looping shot over Koei for 3-0.

Another Sports School free kick in the 10 minutes later surely demolished any hope of a result for the Bullets. Once again, the Sports School right winger was allowed space to collect a pass from the free kick and wriggle into the penalty box. He finished off the move brilliantly under heavy surveillance from the Bowen centre-backs.

The final goal epitomized how the Bullets had lost the plot. A goal kick by Bullets skipper Muhd Farihin was charged down outside the Bullets' penalty box by the Sports School striker and he relayed the ball to his team mate to easily beat Koei on the goal line.
