Big win gives Bowen Bullets tremendous boost

29th January 2014

The B Div boys from Bowen Secondary recorded their biggest win of the year when they whitewashed Anderson Secondary School 8-0 at the Punggol Secondary school field this afternoon.

Having overcome Punggol Sec 4-2 in their previous match, Anderson Sec were seeking another scalp in the tournament but were left licking their wounds. That it took almost half an hour for the Bowen Bullets to make a breakthrough was testament to Anderson's belief. And when the goal came, it was one of superb improvisation by Muhd Afiq. A cross from the right was met by the right winger with a flying back heel which bemused the entire Anderson defence to end up inside the goal.

Muhd Danial added another goal in the 27th min with a tap-in from a Javier Ho's cross before Afiq scored his second goal with a stiff grounder (31st min). Skipper for the day, Royce Chua (33th min) then buried the 4th goal from close range. By this time, the Bullets were toying with their opponents with slick passing and clever movement off the ball. It was not long before Anderson let their frustration of chasing the ball get into them. Bullets midfieder Tan Ren Yu was clipped from behind in the penalty box and Royce Chua converted the spot kick for a half-time lead of 5-0.

The Bullets let their guard down at the start of the 2nd half, allowing their opponents a few open chances which were fortunately not converted. Muhd Danial restored the order of things in the 50th min when he arrived late into the penalty box to stab a lose ball into goal. Bullets coach made several changes in the 2nd half but the dominance remained with the Bullets. Royce Chua, making his swansong for the Bowen Bullets, aptly got his hat trick in the 64th min, half-volleying from close range. Not to be outdone, Muhd Afiq also found his hat trick one minute from time, placing the ball neatly into the bottom right corner of Anderson's goal from 30m out after spotting the goalkeeper out of position.
