Another rousing win for Senior Bullets in SPL

24th February 2017

The Bowen Bullets struck twice in the first half of their match against an ill-prepared Regent Secondary side to take control of Group H in the Schools Premier League Round of 32 this morning at the Cage Sports Park.

The Regent players had their backs to the wall for much of the game following a late arrival at the pitch. Bowen's dominance paid off as Muhd Zamani and Sharveen scored 15 minutes apart to seal a 2-0 win.

The Bullets were finding lots of room to roam on the flanks as Zamani on the left and Fareez on the right constantly tormented Regent. In the 3rd minute, Bullets striker Matin's relay pass to Zamani left him with acres of space to cut into the right and unleash a swerving shot that appeared to pierce through the Regent goalkeeper as well as the goalmouth netting.

The goal encouraged the Bullets to move up a gear and 4 minutes later, Bullets striker Aizal's measured shot from the edge of the box was tipped over the bar by the Regent keeper.

However, teammate Sharveen had better luck with a similar effort in the 17th minute, scoring from outside the box with a looping shot over the keeper.

The Bullets could have gone into the break with a 3rd goal if not for the Regent goalkeeper who redeemed himself with a tremendous finger-tip save of Zamani's curling shot in mid-air.

Regent tightened up after the break and committed more men behind the ball, forcing the Bullets to shoot from outside the box. In the 56th minute, a weak clearance fell to Bullets centre-back Harith Aniq whose side-footed shot sailed just over the bar.

3 minutes later, Aizal showed good footwork to dribble past 3 defenders before crossing to skipper Muhd Tahalif who found himself totally unmarked. But his header was off the mark, missing the goalmouth completely.

The final decent attempt at goal was made by Bullets midfielder Mohd Shakir in the 67th minute. His close-rage effort in the penalty box was cleared away at the goal line.

Tired faces at the end of the first half

The Bullets play their 3rd and last Round of 32 group match against Pasir Ris Secondary the following Monday to probably decide the group winner.

Junior Bullets redeem themselves with good showing against Yishun Secondary

23 Feb 2017

The junior Bullets finally showed the steel that was missing in their last 2 matches to earn a credible scoreless draw against Yishun Secondary School in a NZ C Div Boys match at Bowen's home ground.

The Bullets were able to combine their positional discipline with remarkable tenacity to shut out their opponents over the course of 60 minutes. That the result was achieved with changes to more than half of the team personnel was even  more remarkable. Caretaker coach Sean Ross fielded several new faces like Ethan Loo, Ethan Christopher Koh and Nasr Al Qasim who gave the team a new look with Tang Guan Xi deputising for the injured Koei in between the sticks.

Winger Ethan Koh offered the Bullets team more zest on the right side of midfield with his speed and willingness to chased down every ball. In the 15th minute, he almost gave Bowen the lead when he beat his marker and got behind the Yishun backline. But facing the keeper, Ethan shot too early and the ball went wide.

Just a minute after the break, Ethan K,found himself in another promising position but his shot rebounded off the right goalpost and was cleared.

His last chance came in the 52nd minute of the game when he latched on to a weak clearance from the Yishun defence. This time, he went for power just 10m out when it was wiser to place the ball into the target. The shot was miscued and came off weakly for the Yishun goalkeeper to gather the ball safely in his arms.

The junior Bullets have completed their group matches and failed to go further in the competition. However, they bow out with bright prospects for the next edition of the tournament.
