Senior Bowen Bullets post 2nd win of the season

20th January 2017

The B Div boys from Bowen Secondary School recorded their 2nd victory in as many games in a North Zone Group B match against Canberra Secondary School this afternoon. The 3-0 victory boosted the Bullets' confidence before a crucial top-of-the-table clash with Spectra Sec the following week.

The Bullets dominated possession throughout the match, created numerous chances but were not able to make them count. Save for a penalty scare in the 21st minute, Canberra offered little attacking threat.

The first talking point of the game came when Bullets right-back Noor Rifat was adjudged to have handled the ball when he raised an arm to block a Canberra attacker from running past him with the ball. Fortunately for Rifat, Bullets goalkeeper Desmond Ong guessed correctly to palm away the spot kick at 0-0.

Bowen gained the advantage they were eagerly looking for in the 38th minute when striker Aizal Murhamdani received a pass from teammate Fareez in a crowded penalty box and forced a shot into Canberra's goalmouth.

The Bullets went in search for second goal straight after the break, attempting to win the ball high up the field. Coming on as a substitute for Rifat in the 46th min, Matin scored Bowen's 2nd goal with his first touch of the ball. Latching on to a pass outside Canberra's penalty box, Matin took advantage of the time and space given to fire a searching shot past the Canberra goalkeeper into goal.

As the Canberra players gradually grew tired, the Bullets went another gear up. Half an hour into the 2nd half, Bullets vice-captain Muhd Zamani was picked out with a pass from midfielder R. Sharveen out on the left and he cut inside to unleash a stiff shot across the goalkeeper for Bowen's 3rd goal.

The match gradually lost its edge as Canberra knew the game was up. With a 3-goal cushion, the Bullets controlled the pace until the final whistle.

B Boys open season with comfortable win

13th January 2017

In a B Div Boys North Zone Inter-Schools Football match played at Lor Napiri this afternoon, the senior team from Bowen Bullets cruised to a 3-0 win over Orchid Park Secondary School.

Starting line-up against Orchid Park Secondary

Aizal Murhamdani  scored a hat trick in a one-sided match that saw the Bullets showing flashes of their sparkling form last season but mostly reluctant to move into top gear for large parts of the game.

Team Bowen started off slowly, giving their opponents the chance to gain some measure of possession in midfield. Despite their enthusiasm, Orchid Park never looked the part to take control. In the 8th min, Bullets striker Aizal took matters into his own hands as he ghosted into the penalty area from the right and hammered the ball into goal from a tight angle.

In the 25th minute, Aizal latched on to a loose ball after the Orchid Park right- back let a pass slip through his legs. Aizal left no question about his finishing as he slotted the ball home with ease.

Another easy chance fell to Aizal 20 minutes after the break. Orchid Park left the Bowen intruders into their penalty box totally unmarked and when a throw-in by Muhd Zamani found its way into the danger area, Aizal needed no invitation to complete his hat trick.

The Bullets next face Riverside Secondary who were leading Pei Hwa Sec 3-0 when the match had to be suspended due to inclement weather.
