Senior Bullets end their campaign with a satisfying win

9th Feb 2015

In the Bowen Bullets B Boys' last group match of the Inter-Schools Football Competition held at Woodgrove Secondary School this afternoon, the Bowen boys signed off with a 2-0 victory over Punggol Secondary School.

Knowing that the result of the match was academic since the Bullets have already been knocked out of the competition, the boy went all out nevertheless -- even if it was just to play for pride of being a Bowen Bullet.

The boys from Punggol were evidently no match for the Bullets in every department. As early as the 5th minute, skipper Muhd Danial missed a sitter from close range after some good galloping work down the left from winger Muhd Rasydan. Rasydan, himself, floated a left foot shot towards goal 4 minutes later but it sailed just over the crossbar. On the right side, midfielder Markus Lam also got in the act in the 11th minute as his punt from the right shaved the top of the crossbar.

The goal that the Bullets were looking for, finally came in the 23rd minute when Muhd Danial latched on to a through pass from defensive midfielder Adrian Sim and smashed the ball past the Punggol goalkeeper.

The second half lost its shine as both teams seemed affected by the afternoon heat. However, Punggol were the first to go up a gear and they had a good 5-minute spell after the 60th minute. They came close to equalising but poor finishing put paid to their chances. Not to be outdone, the Bullets came out strongly after substitute Muhd Irfan came on for the tiring Muhd Rasydan. He found space for himself on the right and put in an inviting cross for the onrushing Danial to take the ball on the chest and volley it past the hapless Punggol keeper.

2-0 seemed a respectable score for the Bullets but looking at all the missed chances in the first half, the scoreline could have doubled. Nevertheless, it was an excellent way to bow out of the competition, finishing 3rd in the group after five matches, and collecting only one yellow card throughout.
