Bowen B Boys top group after 3-0 victory over Punggol Sec

The Senior Bullets completed the 1st round of the NZ Inter-School B Div Football Competition this afternoon at the Punggol Sec pitch by dispatching their host 3-0, and thereby qualifying for the quarter-final round as group winners.

Bowen made several changes to the side that drew 3-3 with Fuchun Sec as players reported with illness or injury. Yet, it was a fairly comfortable ride for the Bullets as Punggol offered little resistance.

Bullet Aizal, dropping back to cover the midfield, registered his ninth goal of the competition in the 28th minute after bulldozing his way into the Punggol penalty box to slot home from the left.

In the 34th min, some good work down the left flank left the Punggol defence chasing shadows as Bullets midfielder Muhd Irfan ghosted into the penalty box and side-footed the ball into the net.

Punggol did cause a few problems as the Bowen defence went to sleep on two occasions. An effort was ruled offside and the Bullets had their goalkeeper Desmond Ong to thank for coming off his line to block a second goal-bound effort by a Punggol attacker who slipped through behind the Bowen backline.

The Bowen substitutes, Muhd Rasydan and Ithar Nur Irfan contributed to the third and final Bowen goal in the 62nd minute. Both wingers made use of the width of the field to hoodwink the Punggol defence, with Nur Irfan beating his marker on the right and sending in a deep cross which was headed into an empty net by Rasydan coming in from the right.
